"Imaginaire Scientifique", IKON celebrates science with a video installation for the new headquarters of the Trieste Scientific Imaginary
Founded in Trieste in 1988, the Immaginario Scientifico science centre has moved from its historic headquarters in Grignano to the prestigious Magazzino 26 complex in the Porto Vecchio area — a monumental space deeply tied to the city’s history and culture. The new venue, recently renovated, features numerous interactive multimedia installations.
For the inauguration of the new site, IKON designed a “magic room” for immersive projections and produced the first digital content for this installation.
The experience conceived by IKON unfolds as a visual narrative — one that evokes, informs, and explores science in all its facets and fields of study.
Photographs, reconstructions, animations, and 3D models are projected across a 40-square-metre surface, using 3D mapping technology to cover the entire room.
The viewer is surrounded by the story, accompanied by an original soundtrack, and guided through the great scientific discoveries and the mechanisms that govern our planet — traveling from the past to the present, from the atom to the human body, to the solar system.
The ten-minute video, titled “Imaginaire Scientifique”, pays homage to the exhibition created in Paris in 1986 by physicist Paolo Budinich, founder of the museum.
